Not Alone

We are frightened by the frailty of this life
And so we pretend that we are strong
Till the telephone starts ringing in the dead of the night
And all at once we know the world's gone wrong
When tragedy comes calling, it'll shake us to the core
Till the things we thought were solid aren't certain anymore
But even when our words desert us and our spirits groan
